Course Grading

Trimester grades are determined by the following criteria:

35% Unit Tests – Test Grades are usually given about twice a Trimester. Therefore, they have a significant impact on your Trimester Average. Tests consist of 5 types of questions: placing events in correct temporal order on a timeline, filling-in blanks from a word bank of important terms, identifying important locations on a map, choosing the best answer from multiple choices, and identifying and describing the significance of three provided images. All Tests will be signed by a parent or guardian and returned to Mr. Robinson. Major research assignments may be given the weight of a Test Grade.

30% Quizzes – Quiz Grades are usually given three or four times a Trimester. Quizzes are used to assess understanding of various concepts. Most will be announced but quizzes can be given at any time. Five paragraph essays and other long-term assignments may be given the weight of a Quiz Grade.

30% Homework – Homework Grades are usually given three to four times a week. Homework is assessed for effort, completion and accuracy. Each assignment is worth 2 points. A grade of √- (1 pt.) will be given to late, incomplete or inaccurate work.  A grade of (2 pts.) will be given to work which meets expectations. A grade of √+ (3 pts.) will be given to work which exceeds the expected standards.

5% Class Participation – Learning is an active process. Attitude, effort, risk-taking, and constantly striving for improvement will affect your grade. Disruptive behavior isn’t helpful to this class and will be dealt with immediately. At the end of each Trimester, you will be given up to 5 possible points based on the frequency and quality of your contributions to the class.

Plagiarism, the copying of other students’ work and cheating have no place in this community of learners. Have the confidence in yourself to give your best effort. This is all that is required of you.
